We work closely with many other mathematical and data-driven organisations within, or associated with, the University of Edinburgh, as well as Edinburgh Innovations, the University's commercialisation service. Internal The Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences Launched in 2005, the Maxwell Institute was initially supported by funds from the Scottish Funding Council (SFC). It combines mathematical research and graduate training in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh and the Departments of Mathematics and of Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics at Heriot-Watt University. The Maxwell Institute builds on the long history of collaboration between the three departments, best exemplified by the establishment and continued operation of the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS). Since 2018, the Maxwell Institute has a physical home on the top floor of the Bayes Building which it shares with the ICMS, creating a hub for mathematical sciences research, training and applications in central Edinburgh. The Maxwell Institute The Bayes Centre The Bayes Centre is the University's innovation hub for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The technical strengths brought together in Bayes build on world-leading academic excellence in the mathematical, computational, engineering, and natural sciences in the University's College of Science and Engineering. The Bayes Centre Edinburgh Innovations Edinburgh Innovations is the University of Edinburgh’s commercialisation service, bringing world-leading research to industry, working to identify ideas with value, and facilitating the process of bringing them to life in real-world applications. Edinburgh Innovations Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC) EPCC provides world-class supercomputing and data facilities and services for science and business. EPCC Centre for Investing Innovation The Centre for Investing Innovation is an industry-academic partnership with the global asset manager abrdn to deliver innovation in the investment sector. Centre for Investing Innovation Centre for Investing Innovation partnership announcement Centre for Statistics The Centre for Statistics (CfS) brings together multi-disciplinary researchers from across the University who have the statistical expertise to tackle today’s commercial and societal challenges. Centre for Statistics External International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) ICMS stimulates and promotes the mathematical sciences through diverse international workshops & conferences. These events programmes attract leading mathematical scientists from the UK and internationally - connecting mathematical communities across the world. In addition to workshops, ICMS manages a number of other mathematical activities, such as our very popular Research-in-Groups programme, an extensive knowledge exchange programme, public engagement, and by giving administrative support to a number of mathematical groups. International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) The Alan Turing Institute The Alan Turing Institute is the national institute for data science and artificial intelligence, with headquarters at the British Library. Research at the Turing is channelled around a number of ambitious challenges which represent areas in which AI and data science can have a game-changing impact for science, society, and the economy. The Alan Turing Institute Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences The Isaac Newton Institute is a national and international visitor research institute. It runs research programmes on selected themes in mathematics and the mathematical sciences with applications over a wide range of science and technology. It attracts leading mathematical scientists from the UK and overseas to interact in research over an extended period. INI has a vital national role, building on many strengths that already exist in UK universities, aiming to generate a new vitality through stimulating and nurturing research throughout the country. During each scientific programme new collaborations are made and ideas and expertise are exchanged and catalysed through lectures, seminars and informal interaction, which the INI building has been designed specifically to encourage. Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences UK Knowledge Exchange Hub for Mathematical Sciences (KE Hub) As part of its role within the UK’s higher mathematics infrastructure, INI is proud to set up and support the new UK Knowledge Exchange Hub for Mathematical Sciences (KE Hub). The primary aims of the recently established KE Hub are to: Massively scale up KE activity in the UK, leveraging the experience of the mathematical sciences national infrastructure Connect together researchers, practitioners, end-users and professionals into Forums which interface with the various activities Support existing KE activity in the community whilst growing the network by nurturing untapped pools of researchers, practitioners, and end-users Deliver activities through linked projects overseen by the executive team Coordinate support for mathematical sciences KE projects from beginning to end Through a series of linked projects the KE Hub will amplify the voice of practitioners and end-users, increase mobility, create capacity, develop skills, share good practice for low-risk, high-reward entry points in KE, and broker connections UK Knowledge Exchange Hub for Mathematical Sciences Contact us To discuss any opportunities with us, please email our Business Development team: Email the Business Development team This article was published on 2025-04-22
