We participate in this annual nationwide initiative through a variety of events and activities aimed at people from any age or background. Maths Week Scotland celebrates mathematics with events held year-round. It is run by National Museums Scotland courtesy of Scottish Government funding. Celebrate Mathematics: a workshop for teachers and educators (2024) Date Wednesday 25 September Time 5.15PM - 7.15PM Location James Clerk Maxwell Building We will be running a workshop aimed at Scottish primary teachers, secondary mathematics teachers, and all educators with an interest in mathematics. We will share a range of resources suitable for different age groups, and discuss how to make our students/communities enthusiastic about Maths. This includes a short talk by Dr Kit Searle, teacher and researcher at the School of Mathematics. The workshop will be free to attend, but booking is required via Eventbrite. Meet the mathematicians! What does it really mean to “research maths”, and how and why do people do it? Speak to our mathematicians about their work, learn about our university’s illustrious mathematical history, and engage with props, demos, puzzles and games supported by the school’s outreach team. Witness the one-of-a-kind magic of the 3D zoetrope: watch solid shapes change and animate before your eyes!
