István Gyöngy, Professor of Probability, has been elected an external member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Professor Gyöngy has a distinguished career in the field of stochastic differential equations (SDEs) and stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs), with applications in nonlinear filtering and stochastic control; regularization by noise of partial differential equations (PDEs); numerical analysis of PDEs and SPDEs, with a particular focus on accelerated numerical methods. His more recent research interests include the stochastic Navier–Stokes equations.

The Hungarian Academy of Sciences, founded in 1825, is Hungary's most prestigious learned society. This honour recognises Professor Gyöngy's sustained contributions to the field of mathematics, and the School extends its warmest congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.
