Upcoming events

We deliver numerous events for a variety of audiences throughout the year. See which ones you can get involved in via this page.

When: Saturday 21st February 10:30am to 1:00pm and 1:30pm to 4:00pm

Where: National Museum of Scotland (EH1 1JF)

Come and find our staff and students at the National Museum as they transform into performers, musicians and astonishing mind readers. Discover simple yet mind-boggling tricks that merge maths with magic. Learn how to amaze your family and friends. There will be something for all ages at our interactive stall.

The event is free and no booking is required. It will be a drop-in stall where you can spend as little or as long as you like.

When: Saturday 7th March 10:30am to 12:00pm

Where: James Clerk Maxwell Building (EH9 3FD)

This workshop is aimed at Primary Teachers, Secondary Maths Teachers and all educators with an interest in Mathematics. During the workshop we will introduce our Maths Circles and share some of our most popular resources, discussing how they can be used in the classroom. After the workshop participants will have a chance to borrow a box of resources to use in their school/community.

Attendance is FREE but booking is required. For further information and to book a space click on the link below.

When: Saturday 7th March 1:00pm to 4:00pm

Where: James Clerk Maxwell Building (EH9 3FD)

Our Maths Circle is a drop-in session for children aged 5 to 16 and their families to engage with fun and stimulating mathematical problems and puzzles. The event is FREE but booking is required. Please follow the link below to book a space.

When: Sunday 12th and Monday 13th April 10:00am to 4:00pm

Where: Dynamic Earth (EH8 8AS)

Like every year, we will take part in the Edinburgh Science Festival. This year our researchers will guide visitors through the world of fluids.

Drop in and discover how the same fluid can behave wildly differently at different scales. Try hands-on demos that reveal the science behind our swirly, turbulent ocean and atmosphere—and see how Earth’s rotation helps drive currents and storms. Then dive into the microscopic world, where water feels as sticky as honey to tiny creatures. Find out why simple flapping won’t move a bacterium but will move a fish. A fast, fun introduction to the strange, scale-dependent rules of fluid flow—perfect for curious minds of all ages.

This is a FREE drop-in session and no booking is required. It is part of a larger event by the University of Edinburgh, for which further information can be found through the link below.
