The Abel Prize Lectures are an annual tradition during the week-long celebration of the Abel Prize. The free event features the 2026 Abel Prize Laureate and guest speakers, and is open to the general public. Minhyong Kim, Whittaker Professor of Mathematical Sciences and Director of the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences, will deliver one of this year’s Abel Lectures.The Abel Lectures take place at the University of Oslo on May 27 during the Abel Week celebrations. This year’s Abel Prize Laureate, Gerd Faltings from the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics, will commence the event with his award lecture, followed by three lectures from esteemed mathematicians.Minhyong joins invited speakers Professor Ana Caraiani, from Imperial College London, and Professor Wiesława Nizioł, from the French National Centre for Scientific Research.The Abel Prize is awarded annually to recognise pioneering scientific achievements in mathematics. It is named for Norway’s greatest mathematician, Niels Henrik Abel. The Abel Prize was established by the Norwegian Parliament in 2002 to mark the 200-year anniversary of his birth. Gerd Faltings will receive the 2026 Abel Prize from His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway at an award ceremony on May 26.
