John Pearson has been awarded funding from EPSRC for his project "Randomized Numerical Linear Algebra for Optimization and Control of PDEs". Dr John Pearson, Personal Chair of Scientific Computing at the School, will work in collaboration with Stefan Güttel (University of Manchester) and Postdoctoral Research Associates to work on "Randomized Numerical Linear Algebra for Optimization and Control of PDEs."Partial differential equations (PDEs) are used to describe mathematically how real-world physical systems behave: they can model cell biology, chemical reactions, processes in mathematical finance and a vast range of other processes. The project will use modern technologies from the field of numerical linear algebra, in particular randomized linear algebra, in order to optimize such problems.Check out the EPRSC website Tags Applied and Computational Mathematics Staff success Publication date 22 Oct, 2024
