Winners of fifth Edinburgh Undergraduate Operational Research Challenge announced

The OR Challenge is jointly organised by the School of Mathematics in collaboration with HiGHS and the Operational Research Society.

The Edinburgh Undergraduate Operational Research Challenge invites undergraduate students to play the role of a consultant working with this year's industry partner, ENODA, to derive a data-driven optimisation strategy.

This year, the Challenge was hosted at ENODA’s Edinburgh offices and focused on a real-world optimisation problem in the energy sector. Undergraduate students from across the UK took part, applying data-driven and analytical approaches to develop innovative solutions.

Following the initial submissions, the three best-ranked entries were invited to present their work in person to a panel of expert judges. We are grateful to The OR Society, HiGHS, and ENODA Ltd for sponsoring this year’s Challenge.

After careful deliberation, the results were:

1st prize: Toby Waite (University of St Andrews), awarded a paid summer internship with ENODA and a cash prize.
2nd prize: Tariq Ashkar (The University of Manchester), awarded a cash prize.
3rd prize: Hwayeon Kang and Erblina Bunjaku (The University of Edinburgh), awarded a cash prize.

Congratulations to all the finalists for the high quality of their work and thank you to all the students who participated.
