Programme and travel information for the School of Maths Offer Holder Visit Days. Programme Registration will open at 10:00 in the Bayes Centre, 47 Potterrow, Edinburgh, EH8 9BT, with talks beginning at 10:30. Refreshments will be provided on arrival. Please note that this venue is subject to change, and visitors will be informed of any venue changes closer to the time. In the morning, you will receive an in depth overview of the degree programme, a student life talk, a city tour and accommodation viewing at Pollock Halls (student accommodation). Lunch will be provided in the catering outlet at Pollock Halls after the room viewing. Please note that if you have a nut allergy, the kitchen cannot 100% guarantee that the kitchen or serving area is contamination free. If you have a severe nut allergy, it may be best for you to bring your own lunch as a precaution. In the afternoon, we will travel by coach to King's Buildings where the School of Mathematics is located. You will hear from the Maths Society, go on a tour of the campus and the School, participate in an academic panel, and most importantly chat to current students (alongside coffee and cake). To round off the day, you'll experience a taster lecture from one of our lecturers. You'll be trying out 'TopHat', our mobile voting system that first-year students use in lectures. Do not worry if you have experienced this already at one of our Open Days; the topic will be different and a little more challenging! The day will finish at 15:45. As the King's Buildings campus is in the south part of the city, there will be a coach to take you back to the central campus or to Edinburgh Waverley at the end of the day. The coach will depart from King's Buildings at 15:50, and will arrive at Edinburgh Waverley by 16:15. If this is a problem, let us know when you arrive, and we can help you book a taxi. Please note that the programme may be subject to last minute changes. Travel Parking for long periods of time can often be difficult in Edinburgh. Due to the movement around the city during the visit, we would recommend using a multi storey car park in the centre. Please do not try to park at the university as it is either permit parking or 4 hours maximum stay. More information about parking in Edinburgh can be found on the Edinburgh City Council website. If you travelling by train, the morning venue is a 10-15 minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley station. We will drop you at the train station at the end of the day. Due to timings for the day, we would suggest booking your travel home for after 16:30 to allow time to travel back to the city centre. This article was published on 2025-04-22
