Antoni Sieminski, supervised by Professor Simon Wood, was named 'Best Student Presentation' at the 40th International Workshop on Statistical Modelling. The International Workshop on Statistical Modelling has been held annually for more than three decades. This year's workshop was hosted by the University of Oslo, taking place from June 28 to July 3. The prize winners were announced at the conference dinner on Thursday evening.Antoni was recognised by the student prize committee, comprising members of the Scientific and Organising Committees of the conference and the Editorial Board of Statistical Modelling, for his presentation titled, 'Fast boosted GAM via Adaptive Smoothness Relaxation with scale-invariant tensor product interactions'. Antoni says, "My supervisor, Simon Wood, was the main driving force behind me being able to develop all of these ideas. I am also grateful to my colleagues Lennart Hoheisel, Claudia Collarin, and Sifat Ar Salan, who met with me a few days before and gave me feedback on how to improve my presentation".The Statistical Modelling Society has awarded prizes for the best student paper, best student talk, and best student poster since 2013.
