'Why Mathematics Matters – from chocolate to nuclear reactors, our economy, environment and society needs mathematics, and mathematics needs everyone to contribute'. Please join us for this year’s Fitch Lecture from 2-4 pm on Tuesday May 26 in the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Bayes Centre.The lecture will be given by industrial leader, strategist and mathematician, Dr Heather Tewkesbury, who is Chief of Strategic Relationships at the Smith Institute and President of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.There will be a series of talks delivered by PhD students and postdoctoral innovation experts from the Maxwell Institute discussing industry and internships from 2-3 pm. The Fitch lecture will begin at 3 pm and will be followed by a reception.The Fitch Lecture is one of four in our Maxwell Institute distinguished lecture series that highlights the interactions between industry and mathematical research. The lecture is named in honour of Davey Fitch, our School's first Business Development Executive, who passed away in 2019.
