Code of Conduct

The aims of this conference series are to promote Monte Carlo, Quasi Monte Carlo, and closely related fields, to foster the exchange of ideas related to these fields, and to support the professional development of researchers working in these communities. To achieve these aims, we promote the highest standards of good conduct in our professional interactions at MCQMC and any associated social events. The purpose of this Code is to describe the standard for good conduct at MCQMC.

Standards of Good Conduct

1.    Uphold and promote ethical professional practice.

2.    Uphold and promote equal opportunity for participants at MCQMC.

3.    Uphold and promote a culture of respectful behaviour and anti-harassment at MCQMC.

4.    Avoid knowingly or carelessly endangering the safety and security of others.

5.    Avoid contravening these standards or actively or passively facilitating or condoning situations in which the above standards are contravened.

 

Ethical Professional Practice

MCQMC upholds and promotes professional integrity and accountability, and ethical scientific conduct. Participants are referred to the American Statistical Association’s Ethical Guidelines for Statistical Practice (http://www.amstat.org/ASA/Your-Career/Ethical-Guidelines-for-Statistical-Practice.aspx). In resolving any ethical problem not explicitly covered by these Guidelines, members should consider the spirit and intent of applicable provisions, general ethical principles, the needs and interests of members and the profession, social and moral expectations, contractual obligations, and any applicable laws.

Anti-Harassment

MCQMC upholds and promotes a respectful and collegial environment that is free of harassment. Harassment includes any conduct that unreasonably interferes with an individual’s participation in MCQMC activities or creates an intimidating or hostile environment.  Examples of harassment include, but are not limited to

•    offensive comments (including those related to gender (including identity, expression, and transgender status), age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, pregnancy, and physical appearance);

•    unauthorised or inappropriate physical contact;

•    unwelcome sexual (or other forms of) attention (including emails, messages, etc.);

•    behaviour which intimidates or isolates an individual (e.g. following, singling-out);

•    inappropriate language, symbols, or images in presentations or communications;

•    sustained interruption of talks or other events;

•    unauthorised or inappropriate photography or recording.

 

Reporting and Consequences

Conference participants can report any concerns via email to members of the local organising committee and their correspondence will remain confidential.  If the organising committee believes with high probability participant(s) have violated the code of conduct, the organisers reserve the right to terminate those participant(s)' conference registration, and further attendance at the conference for those participant(s) would not be permitted.  In this event, any registration fees would not be refunded.
